Venice - Italy

First travel post is going to be about the city I have always dreamed of visiting. Venice fascinated me in all the movies and pictures and it did not let me down. I think this place is realy magical.

První příspěvek je o městě, které jsem si vždy přála navštívit. Benátky mě lákaly z filmů i obrázku a rozhodně jsem jimi nebyla zklamaná. Jsou opravdu krásné.

I traveled with my boyfriend and we wanted our trip low cost so I spent many many days looking for the best price of  the airplane ticket and the accommodation. Finally we decided to fly with Wizzair from Prague to Venice (Treviso) and then back from Venice (Marco Polo) to Prague with Air One. It was my second trip with Wizzair and I can highly recommend them. The booking itself is very easy, they do not change the flight plan as other low cost airlines often do and the most important is that the price is low. From Prague to Venice (flight about 1,30 hour) we paid 37 euro. We returned back from Venice with Air One, that is a low cost italian airline. I liked that they provided student discount so we paid 26 euro for each, but the plane was quite dirty. On the other hand, it was a pretty good deal for that price.

Cestovala jsem se svým přítelem a chtěli jsme aby nás výlet vyšel co nejlevněji, proto jsem strávila mnoho dní hledáním té nejlevnější ceny letenky a ubytování. Z Prahy do Benátek jsme nakonec letěli s Wizzair.  Byl to můj druhý let s touto společností a  můžu ji jedině doporučit. Koupě letenek je snadná, rychlá a nemění letové řády ze dne na den, tak jako to dělá mnoho jiných nízkonákladovek. A co víc, cesta nás stála jen 999 Kč. Zpět z Benátek jsme letěli s italksou nízkonákladovou společností Air One. Líbí se mi, že poskytují studentské slevy a tak nás jedna cesta vyšla na jen něco kolem 780 Kč. Letadlo bylo sice celkem špinavé a ošuntělé, ale za tu cenu si člověk moc stěžovat nemůže.

Our plane landed in a small town called Treviso. We walked through the town and than headed to the railway station to catch our train from Treviso to Mestre, which was the city where we were acommodated. The map told us we should go about 10 - 15 minutes from railway station to the acommodation, but it took us around 2 hours! The city is a one big cul-de-sac! We came to the camp totaly exhausted. We were accommodated in Camping Village Jolly in a small cabin with only two bed, tiny bathroom and no other space in it, but it had an air condition! We appreciated it especially during the night as a heater. The great thing about the camp was the swimingpool! Athought we visited Venice in May and the water temperature was under 20 degree Celsius, we swam several times. The price for one cabin was only 27 euro per night!

Přistáli jsme v malém měste Treviso, ve kterém jsme se trochu prošli a po zjištění, že zde nic zajímavého k vidění není jsme zamířili na nádraží chytit vlak do Mestre, což bylo město ve kterém jsme měli ubytování. Podle mapy se zdálo, že z nádraží do kempu cesta potrvá něco kolem 10 - 15 minut. Nakonec jsme ji šli 2 hodiny. To město je jedna velká slepá ulice! Když jsme nakonec do kempu celí zničení dorazili, byli jsme ubytováni v naší chatce, ve které byli jen dvě postele a miniaturní koupelna a klimatizace, kterou jsme v noci využívali jako topení. V kempu byl dokonce bazén a i přesto, že byl květen a voda nedosahovala ani 20 stupňů, jsme se i několikrát vykoupali. Cena chatky byla jen 730 Kč za noc.

As I mentioned before, we lived in Mestre. The city itself has nothing to offer. No sightseeing, no markets, just roads and houses. Every day we took a bus for 1,30 euro and the journey to Venice lasted around 30 minutes. You can also go by car, but since there are no roads in Venice you have to park on the edge of the town and I am pretty sure that the price is extreme! 

When I first saw Venice I was amazed. I have never seen anything like this before and I cannot understand how the real life can work here. You have to go everywhere by walk or by boat and I cannot even imagine what it is like to experienced flooding there. 

We spent 4 days in Venice and it was enough. We saw everything and a lot of sights even many times. The islands - Lido, Murano, Burano were the only part of Venice we missed. The highlight of the trip was the view from Campanille di San Marco. Campanile is situated on the most famous venetian square - San Marco. You have to wait in a queue about 20 minutes, than you pay 8 euro, but the view is totaly worth it. 

Jak jsem již jednou zmínila, bydleli jsme v Mestre. V tomto městě nic zajímavého k vidění není, žádné památky, trhy, jen silnice a domy. Každý den jsme odsud jezdili autobusem do Benátek za 1,30 eur. Cesta trvala kolem 30 minut. Do Benátek se dá dojet i autem, ale protože ve městě nejsou žádné silnice, musíte ho zaparkovat hned z kraje na obřím parkovišti, což bude určitě dost předražené. 

Když jsem poprvé spatřila Benátky, byla jsem ohromena. Nechápu, jak zde někdo může žít celý život. Všude se musíte prodírat pěšky přes davy turistů nebo vlastnit loď a jezdit s ní. Jaké to je, když město zaplaví povodně, si vůbec nedokážu představit.

V Benátkách jsme strávili 4 dny a bylo to úplně akorát. Všechny památky jsme si prošli několikrát a jediná věc, kterou jsme zmeškali byly ostrůvky Lido, Murano a Burano. Ze všech atrakcí se mi nejvíce líbil výhled z Campanille di San Marco. Campanille se nachází na nejznámějším benátském náměstí San Marco. Musíte si vystát zhruba 20 minutovou frontu, následně zaplatit 8 eur, ale ten výhled za to určitě stojí.

To be honest we ate only pizza all four days. It was so delicious and also the cheapest. Restaurants in Venice are well known for their hidden charges. The menu says you will pay 20 euro but in the end you will recieved charge for band playing in front of the restaurant, nice view, popular location or any other crazy reason. We have heard about it before so we were looking for a restaurant with sing "no hidden charges" and we were successfull.

You definitaly have to try drink Belini! It is a some kind of chamapagne mixed with peach juice. The price is 10 euro for bottle, but you will not regret! They also sell it in smaller bottles for 3 euro. I would love to buy Belini in Prague, but I have not found it anywhere yet.

Our huge dissapoitment was a typical sicilian food we were looking for the whole visit - Arancini. It is a rice ball stuffed with cheese and ham and than fried. When we finally discovered it, it was just grose. The tip - dont buy any sicilian food in Venice

Abych řekla pravdu, tak jsme celé 4 dny jedli jenom pizzu. Byla strašně dobrá a taky nejlevnější. Restaurace v Benátkách jsou známé pro svoje skryté poplatky. Z menu sice vyčtete, že zaplatíte 20 euro, ale na konci dostanete účtenku, na které je poplatek za kapelu hrající před restaurací, za hezké místo, populární lokalitu atd. O těchto poplatcích jsme slyšeli už před odjezdem, takže jsme pečlivě hledali restauraci, která měla na dveřích napsáno "bez skrytých poplatků."

Pokud jste v Benátkách, tak určitě musíte ochutnat Belini! Je to mix šampaňského a broskvového džusu. Velká lahev stojí 10 eur, malá 3, ale koupě litovat rozhodně nebudete.  Strašně ráda bych Belini sehnala i v Praze, ale bohužel se mi to zatím nepodařilo.

Velkým jídelním zklamáním byly Arancini - typická sicilská svačinka - rýžová koule plněná šunkou a sýrem a následně osmažená. Tip - nedávejte si v Benátkách  sicilské speciality.

As I mentioned before our trip was low cost so we did not spend a lot of money on shopping. But I think Venice offers many shopping oportunities. You will not find here any cheaper retail chains like H&M, Zara, Bershka etc. but if you like high fashion brands you are in a right place. I loved the  sellers of Chanel, Prada or Luis Vuitton standing right directly in front of these fancy shops offering the fake goods for the fraction of the real price. It was very funny. Venice is also full of the souveniers shops with their Murano glass (which is manufactured in the Murano island) or carnival masks.

Jak jsem již zmínila v úvodu, tak náš výlet byl low cost, takže jsme za nákupy moc neutráceli. Myslím, že Benátky ale nabízejí nespočet nákupních možností. Nenajdete zde sice žádné levnější řetězce jako je H&M, Zara, Bershka a tak dále, ale pokud máte rádi luxusní značky, jste na správném místě. Nejvíc se mi líbili obchodníci, kteří prodávali fake kabelky Chanel, Prada nebo Luis Vuitton přímo před originálním obchodem. Benátky jsou také plné obchůdků s typickými suvenýry, jako je Muránské sklo nebo karnevalové masky.

To conclude I highly recommend Venice! It is a beautiful place full of historical sights, fancy shops, restaurants and great atmosphere. I hope I will come back one day because I have to ride gondola and visit Murano, Burano and Lido island.

Benátky určitě doporučuji. Je to krásné místo plné historických památek, luxusních obchodů, restaurací a se skvělou atmosférou. Určitě se sem musím vrátit, abych se svezla na gondole, která byla pro náš studentský rozpočet nekřesťansky drahá (za hodinovou projížďku asi 80 euro) a navštívila opomenuté ostrovy.
